Nashville Recycling Program
Your first recycling pick-up will be approximately one month after you receive your recycling cart. You will receive a postcard informing you of the approximate cart delivery date, and an information packet included with your cart will tell you your exact pick-up date. Although your recycling and trash collection days may be different under the new system, you can expect same-day service for both trash and recycling by 2004.
Collection of recyclables will occur from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on your collection day. Weather, traffic, and the volume of material collected may cause the actual collection time to vary.
Cart Placement
You should place your cart in the same place you currently put your trash (curb, alley, etc.). When the cart is delivered, it will be placed where it should be positioned on collection day. It should be at least three feet from any stationary object such as a car, mailbox, utility pole, etc.

Metro's Residential Oil and Grease Recycling Program
(Friday, November 17, 2006) - Residents of homes and apartments generate Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) during the preparation and cooking of food. Fats, oils, and grease poured in kitchen sinks or other drains, can cause blockages in the city sewer line and possible sewer line back-ups in neighboring residences, or result in sanitary sewer overflows that pollute our environment with raw sewage. In a cooperative effort to minimize environmental impacts and sanitary sewer blockages, Metro Public Works and Metro Water Services have begun a new pilot program to recycle used cooking oil and grease.
